Highway 27 Bridge Replacement

US-27 is considered a vital route for the travelling public as well as many local agencies. The average daily traffic count is near 30,000 vehicles per day as well as having a highly active first responder presence with the hospital nearby. Plans call for a phased replacement of the bridge over the Little Tallapoosa River, starting with the northbound portion. This means that the normally five lane highway will be bottlenecked to two lanes for the next 12-18 months with the second phase to replace the southbound portion beginning around May of 2023. For the first phase, all traffic will be shifted to the southbound side of the bridge. There will be extremely limited areas for the public to pull over and/or move out of the way for first responders going to calls. Please keep that in mind when coming through this area. Our traffic shift for the first phase is currently scheduled to be installed on October 18, 2022.
