Folksinger, storyteller and songwriter, Harry O’Donoghue, tells Ireland’s story in song. Harry has shared the stage with the Savannah Symphony, Mary Black, Cathie Ryan, Andy M. Steward, Natalie McMaster, the Furey Brothers, Tommy Makem and Danny Doyle. He performs throughout the U.S. and Ireland and hosts GPB’s The Green Island Radio Show. Harry was voted Best Acoustic/Folk Artist by the readers of Connect Savannah. Georgia Poet Laureate Chelsea Rathburn

Our Visiting Artist Series celebrates Chelsea Rathburn, Georgia’s Poet Laureate. Her poems have appeared in such esteemed journals as PoetryThe Atlantic Monthly, the New Republic, The Southern Review, New England Review and Ploughshares. Born and raised in Florida, she now lives in Macon, Georgia, with her husband, poet James Davis May, and their daughter and teaches at Mercer University.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Filmed in Georgia and containing several scenes of Banning Mills near Whitesburg, Fried Green Tomatoes is a 1991 comedy-drama based on the Fannie Flagg’s novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. It stars Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Mary-Louise Parker. It tells the story of a Depression-era relationship between two women, Ruth and Idgie, and a 1980s friendship between Evelyn, a middle-aged housewife, and Ninny, an elderly woman.

An Evening with Shawn Megorden

Carrollton native Shawn Megorden teaches young dancers at the Center for the Arts, acts with the Carroll County Community Theatre and performs professionally as an actress, singer and dancer in Atlanta and the Southeast. Enjoy her smooth, jazzy vocals in her first concert in the Danny Mabry Theatre. Local Voices: An Evening of Poetry

The Carrollton Writer’s Guild celebrates every year an evening of poetry. This wonderful event is for all members of the Carrollton Writer’s Guild and their guests. This year’s evening will feature Dr. Cecilia Lee, Dr. Bob Covel and Dr. Richard Anderson. The moderator will be Dr. Eleanor Hoomes. Membership is $25 to become a member of the Carrollton Writers Guild. This membership covers a variety of programs that help to promote the literary arts in our community.

Teen Theatre Showcase

Join us at the Center for the Arts for the Second Annual Teen Theatre Showcase. Some of West Georgia’s most talented teen acts perform scenes, monologues, solos and dance numbers.
