Position Information
Description: Under limited supervision, this part-time specialized work controls vehicular and pedestrian traffic at school crossings to prevent accidents and protect the safety of school children and other pedestrians. Work is performed during particular hours of the day during the school year depending on crossing area assigned and is performed within well-defined procedures and regulations. Inclement weather work required. Reports to the Student Resources Office Sergeant.

Training and Qualifications: High school diploma, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to see details at a distance. The ability to see objects or movement of objects to one’s side when the eyes are focused forward. The ability to see under low light or bright conditions. The ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from the observer, or to judge the distance between an object and the observer. The ability to focus on a single source of auditory (hearing) information in the presence of other distracting sounds. The ability to exert one’s self physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath. The ability to stand continuously for periods of 45 minutes to 1 hour twice/day outside in the elements and in or near moving traffic. The ability to react and move quickly, even run, if the situation arises at the school.
