Carver High Alumni Honored

Carrollton’s mayor and city council honored the former educators, alumni and descendants of the students and staff of George Washington Carver High School. The council recognized 2025 as “George Washington Carver High School’s 70th Anniversary Year” with a heartfelt proclamation.

This celebrates the school’s profound legacy since its opening in September, 1954, just months after the historic Brown vs. Board of Education decision. Originally founded as a segregated institution, Carver High School has been a beacon of education and community for African American students from Carrollton and surrounding areas.

Alumni Carolyn Gray, Class of 1965, the visionary behind The Carver High Experience traveling exhibit, spoke during the presentation. The exhibit will be displayed at the Villa Rica Public Library this February.
