More than 1,000 riders will roll into Carrollton June 8-10 as Bicycle Ride Across Georgia returns to the Peach State.
Riders will spend next Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Carrollton headquartered at the Carrollton City Schools campus and will enjoy a movie (School of Rock) at the Amp on Tuesday night at 7pm and a concert (David Pippin Group and The 80ators) at the Amp Wednesday night, starting at 4pm. Both Amp events are free and open to the public. There will be excursions to Printer’s Ale Brewery, Historic Banning Mills and local parks and recreation facilities available to the riders during the day on Wednesday. The cyclists will resume their ride to their next stop, LaGrange, early Thursday morning.
“This route is one of the most scenic, shortest, and most exciting BRAG has had in recent memory,” says BRAG’s Executive Director, Franklin Johnson. “In 2019, we had a pretty long route and obviously 2020 was a tough year for everyone. So for 2021, the rides each day will be shorter but packed with a lot of fun, both on and off the bike.”
Big BRAG, as the annual ride is called by its organizers, begins June 6 at the top of Lookout Mountain. Participants will cycle backroads and paved bike trails over seven days and have access to fully stocked rest stops every 10-20 miles, support and gear (SAG) vehicles, and medics. BRAG operations move locations every day. The cyclists camp overnight along the route in Lafayette, Cave Spring, Carrollton, Senoia, and LaGrange. The ride finishes on June 12 with a celebratory lunch and festivities along the Chattahoochee River in Columbus, Georgia.
The theme of the 2021 Big BRAG trip is “Under the Covers with BRAG.” Live entertainment each evening features tribute bands covering the ’80s, Allman Brothers, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and much more.
The Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) is a not-for-profit dedicated to providing affordable, quality bicycle tours in and across the state of Georgia.
