Walt Hollingsworth was elected as Mayor of Carrollton, Georgia on December 1, 2015.
Walter Hollingsworth was elected Mayor of Carrollton in 2015 with a promise to be guided by common sense governing principles and to work to enable greater citizen participation in local government. “I want to give back and serve the citizens of this great community. I want to involve more of our citizens in what’s going on. It’s our town, it belongs to all of us, and we have to be involved.”
Walt, whose family has been a part of Carroll County from the county’s earliest days in the early 1800s, has actively served this community for many years. He was born in and grew up in the county’s Centerpoint community and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1975. Walt graduated from Auburn University in 1981 with a degree in agriculture. After college, he returned home to serve as the Community Development Vice President of the Carrollton Jaycees and the next year was its president. The following year, he went on to the state level and became Community Development Vice President of the Georgia Jaycees. During this time, Walt began managing his family’s business, Hollingsworth Concrete, which he continues to operate today. He is a past president of the Evening Sertoma Club and has been involved with the Carrollton Empty Stocking Fund and the Fourth of July parade for several years. He is a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Walt’s work, education and family history have made the Mayor particularly conscious of the issues confronting small and family businesses, which are central to a community’s economic identity. He began his term in January, 2016.
