Position Information
Description: Under general supervision, performs all duties of a firefighter which includes fighting fires, performing salvage and rescue work, and administering minor first aid to accident victims. Completes regular training sessions and performs minor maintenance work on the fire station and department vehicles as required. Reports to the Lieutenant.
Training and Qualifications: Prior to employment, applicant must: (1) be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination, (2) be capable of performing the minimum physical requirements of this position as required by the State of Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Commission and/or department policy, (3) prove negative drug use by certified drug screen, (4) possess a valid driver’s license, (5) be at least 18 years of age, (5) possess a high school diploma [or GED equivalent], (6) be of good moral character, without felony convictions, as determined by a background/criminal investigation.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to assist and carry disabled persons and operate a variety of firefighting and rescue equipment, such as a the jaws of life, set and climb ladders, hose clamp, chock blocks, foam eductor, various rescue tools, extrication spreader tool, ventilation saw, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to fifty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for physically active work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 125 pounds for at least one hundred feet.
