Water/Sewer Honored for Utilities Safety

The City of Carrollton’s Water and Sewer Division was recently recognized for working with care near underground utilities. SyncGlobal Telecom and Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative co-hosted SyncGlobal’s annual 811 Day Meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 11, to share pertinent information on safe digging and recognize companies.

“Our workers place the highest priority on jobsite safety,” said Carrollton Public Works Director Mike Green. “We appreciate the recognition.”

811 Day serves as a reminder to call 8-1-1 before digging so underground utilities can be flagged to prevent damage. The event has been held the past two years on Aug. 11. Employees of Carroll EMC, SyncGlobal Telecom, Georgia Power, GreyStone Power Corporation and members of the West Georgia Utility Coordinating Committee (UCC) nominated utilities, municipalities and contractors who are seen following state dig laws and regulations for special honors. Also recognized this year were Southern Company Gas and Lions Den Construction.

“We wanted to recognize the local companies who go out of their way to not only practice safe digging but promote it as well,” said Terrence Cooley, Carroll EMC’s utility coordinator who serves as both Chairman of the West Georgia UCC and state co-director for the Georgia Utilities Coordinating Council.

SyncGlobal Telecom, headquartered in Bremen, GA, serves business-class customers in western and northwestern Georgia as a facility-based CLEC and ISP and operates an existing fiber network totaling approximately 400 route miles. Carroll EMC is a member-owned cooperative providing electricity to approximately 50,000 homes and businesses in Carroll, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk, Floyd and Troup counties.
